Healthy
Eating Tips
Here’s some common sense advice for improving your eating habits without
having to resort to a diet.
+ Don’t skip breakfast but avoid high sugar
cereals
+ Rather than have 3 large meals a day try having
5 smaller ones every 2-3hrs
+ Have a balanced evening meal which contains
protein and carbohydrate and a little healthy fat. (not saturated). Don’t
make it the biggest meal of the day!
+ Try to have your evening meal as early as possible.
A healthy snack e.g. fruit is fine later on.
+ Drink more water, at least 8 glasses a day.
Try using a sports bottle and take a swig every 15 minutes. If you feel hungry,
drink water first-your body gets confused between hunger and thirst!
+ Do you need to add salt to food? No! Look out
for high salt (sodium) on food labels
+ If you can, eat whole foods e.g. vegetables,
fruit, lean meat (red meat only once a week) and soya products
+ Spread your carbohydrate intake throughout the
day. Try mixing some protein with the carbs.
+ Remove skin from white meat e.g. chicken and
turkey
+ Why fry?! Use a grill if you can.
+ Check food labels. Avoid anything which contains
hydrogenated fat or “hidden “sugars.
+ If you do have an unhealthy meal don’t
be too hard on yourself. Just make sure that you eat healthily for the next
two days and add a few minutes exercise.
+ Diets don’t work long term. Healthy eating
does!
